It was a night well spent and even a better night for Mum actually where me, Dada and herself celebrated her, I-can’t-remember-how-many-candles-she-needed, birthday. Oh ya! Now I remembered, it was her 56th because last year she was 55, mah! Duh!Excited Mum wanted to eat at an eating place in Esplanade but she couldn’t recall where and what, so me and Dada brought her to 2Hot Halal Cafe as we figured that was the only halal, decent place available over at Esplanade.
I was a bit skeptical about the quality of food and service but damn, they proved me wrong. We were welcomed by a wonderful waiter who fed us with useful information including things like the chef’s name and who runs the place. I am telling you, if you eat with my mum, she’ll have weird questions to ask the first staff she grab hold of and that is how I usually judge places, good and helpful answers: Good, everything also donch noe: fucked up!

This place: GOOD!
Food is from velvet, drinks are from plasticI was attracted to their simple yet pretty menu layout and design. Not original but I could say conventional with a twist.

Kids are VIPS, they have special menu
Powerrr! How to tarik and twist together?
I want to order WEE-WEE, can?
Candle light some morePrice is fairly okay but if only they could squeeze a little bit more and provide us with a more competitive price list but I guess it was due to it’s location. If you are wondering where the hell is this makan place, just walk along the river or sea, whatever you call it, and it is located right next to the Makan Sutra (i think that’s the hawker’s name) food centre’s left facing the waters.
We were even given the chance to do up a survey form, not just ordinary paper but name card material, mind you, cheque book size, asking us about food, service and suggestions.
I give this place a 7.125 out of 10. They won points mostly on service despite me being denied of snapping photos earlier while waiting for the food but the manager eventually apologised and allowed me so after I explained to him that I wanted to make a review on the place. Well here I did, didn’t I?
They even presented us a $20 voucher before we left for more celebration.

But must spend minimum of $30 to be valid
They got bagus meter, ok!I also have my own meter!
Food: 7/10 Moojik Yum Yum!
Service: 8/10 Moojik Yum Yum!
Price: 6/10 Moojik Yum Yum!
Concept: 7.5/10 Moojik Yum Yum!
Recommendations: The tables need not be covered with those hard plastic sheets. They look like a Malay family’s dining table! Those silk table cloths are just perfect.2Hot Halal Cafe is 7.125 Moojik Yum Yum!

hey there… just dropping by
I’ve been to this cafe once while accompanying my parents watching Ismail Haron in concert.
I must say that as expected the price was … a bit steep to my liking but what I like most was definitely the service! The waiters and waitresses was very friendly and I can tell it was a sincere good service and not just an act. Plus the variety of choices was quite commendable.
Good la at least got a decent place for us muslims to eat while at Esplanade :-P
Still the ambience not quite there yet. Doesn’t actually feel like a cafe… maybe cos its not air conditioned… heh…

hi Kimmy,
Welcome to here and thx for dropping a line.
Yes the ambience lack the feel of eating in that price range place. U understand what i meant right?
The not air-con thing is ok but the fan too fast and my smoke kept being blown to Dada’s face.
Well as u said, at least there is one decent place for us to dine in esplanade. true that.

eh. i was here months ago. (think 6 months)
and i never went back cos my experience there sucked.
firstly, the service sucked. and the servings were too small for those price tags.
and the menu that time, allah kasssim, so tak appealing.
but from your pics, wow. dah banyak berubah okaaaaaay.
mebbe i shud give it a second try.

Linda Nj, i share the same experience! Paiseh ar bawak chinese colleague for farewell lunch sekali tu service sucked like wat jer..one and the half hour baru dpt makan tau cos only ada one cook. I heard at nite ada 3 cook. maybe its best to hv dinner kat sana dari lunch.
Ari gie lah try and hv lunch kat sana wif ur kak lis tuu hehe

Linda NJ & Lunacy:
That was what I heard from kak Lis too since she is working in that area hence my fear of not having good service for mum’s birthday but dinner was very well served. As proven, you could see the serving size thru the pics and the staff in the evening are all well-mannered and equipped.
As for having lunch over there, I’ll have to ask Kak Lis whether she is ok with the idea or not.. If not, why don’t ALL of us go together gether and see it for ourselves?
Amaciam?

Woit!! Kan aku dah terai pi sana time lunch.. NI aku nak citer.
1st time aku pegi kol 11 pagi, kononnya nak gi chill kat sana lah. Al-maklom kan kol 11 tak de orang. So sampai sana aku nampak ada service personnel(read:waiter) tengah betol kan cadar meja. Ye, aku cakap cadar, bukan alas meja. hng! So, back to the story… aku dengan muka selamba-landnya, dah tarik kerusi, nak landing-kan punggung yang sebesar 3 bakul ni kat kerusi tu. Dah kena tahan ngan service personnel tu. Dia cakap bukak kol 12. Nasiblah aku ni tak putih melepak. Kalau muka aku putih, dah gerenti muka aku merah. So, aku dengan style kakak-kakak pekak badak, cakap ngan dia, “So, u better be sure that tomorrow when I come at 12 on the dot, u have ur food ready.” SErvice personnel tu pon tersipu malu mcm kura-kura tgk aku muka cam tapai basi. Haizz, stim aku nak chill terpotong. Jangan nak suruh aku chill dalam eksboks, sebab aku mmg tak muat kat dalam.
2nd time aku pegi sana, aku sengaja lambatkan masa. So aku pegi around 14:30 SGT. Jumpalah abang-abang security personnel, so apa lagik, sekalik dua orang jadik bodyguard aku. Kiri kanan diaorg pagar aku. Dah sampai sana, tak de orang greet kita lah. Dah memang dasar selamba-land, orang tak jemput dudok, aku pon dengan semangatnya duduk, mintak menu sekalik. Lawa menu yang dia bagi aku tu, apa yang kau tgk dlm gambar, gitulah menu dia. So, aku pon bukak lah mukasurat pertama.. AH KAU! Terkeluar bola mata aku tgk harga diaorg.. Maklomlah, tak biasa aku makan mahal-mahal kan… Aku terpikir lagik betol ke aku nak makan kat sini. I only got ONE hour to eat. Kalau makanan tak sedap, camna aku nak complain? I need at least 2-3 free hours untuk aku meng-enjoy makanan mahal-mahal, dan kalau tak sedap, service cam paprek, at least ada dalam lagik 1-2 jam untuk complain. Teros aku batalkan niat aku, aku cakap ngan service personnel yang kaum hawa tu, “Dik, tak pe lah dik, terbegik akak tgk harga. akak tak mampu. Akak pi makan marina je lah ye.trima kaseh ye dik.” Dia hanya mampu tersenyum. tapikan, aku rasa mcm ada orang tgh mengomel lah gitu kat belakang aku, masa aku tgh melangkah pergi. mcm “sshhaasshh shhuusshh hsshhaahha” .. akan akan gitu lah kot~.
Ari, awak nak ajak saya? Boleh saja, tapi awak bayar pakai duit awak boleh? Saya tak nak spend duit saya kat sana.
Sekian. Terima Kaseh.

I’ve been there before and yeah, the prices are way too expensive for their “ciput” servings. But for a great view of the sea and free music from the Theatre by the Bay (if there’s any when u go lah kan..), I think it’s worth it. But of course, unless I get hold of Encik Ari Moojik’s $20 voucher, I’m not returning there for another bowl of Nyonya Laksa for $14,90 when I can geddit a way cheaper from the hawker centre with the same exquisite taste.
Apa susah..bawa laksa sendiri, bentang tikar, cucuk lilin depan esplanade = a lovely hearty meal with the same ambience and the same view all comes cheap cheap!!!
lunacy 5:34 pm on December 13, 2005 | # |
hahaha well-said ar kak lis!. wa tabik sama lu..

Lunacy:
Kau nak blanja eh? On ah! heehee
Kak Lis:
Mak Oi! lu buat entry dalam entry eh beb? Mcm Umpama mimpi dalam mimpi gitu ah…. Lepak sak aku baca repeat telecast padahal dia dah story dgn aku.
But ya lor, to attract lunch crowd cannot be too steep a price. They should hae a separate menu for lunch with options for sets and affordable 1 hr meals. As you said, if you pay for it, you want to enjoy it and if it’s more expensive, you need more than an hour to enjoy the food.
You didn’t give them feedback meh?
Lady’M:
But it seemed the question about serving has been improved. Either that, they are not consistent. This we have yet to know and for now only me had the better amount of serving compared to some of us who shared their views.
And if happen to want to picnic at esplanade dgn laksa sendiri, call abg ari ok? gua nak join! hahaha.. cheap! cheap!
Lunacy:
Kak Lis mmg gituk… kalau boleh semua benda yg negative dia akan condemn. bagus lah daripada senyap dalam tak suka. butul tak achi?
