Blogger is giving me the creeps. I can’t republish the whole site other than republish index as it will give an error after 98% of republishing in progress. And now my archives are in a mess due to incomplete republishing. How crappy. And I am beginning to find the name Blogspot too tacky.
So I did a search for FREE blog hosts and gave myself a few options to try out last night apart from wordpress.com and lah.cc which I presume most of you already know but most UNlikely I will be actively updating due to personalisation of outlook issues.
My aim:
No tacky or corny blog host names.
Customisation: YES completely with plug-ins control.
Platform: Whichever is latest and user friendly with advance options.
Templates: Unique and simple ones…
Ads: No ads but with flexibility to put my own ads.
Account: Preferably FREE.SO here’s the list of what I tried within a night.

Verdict: NO I dowan! I got turned off by the footer. And yes, the User ID: ‘join’ is me. Cool right? Can be administrator for new sign-ups.
By this time I got tired and lazy already. I cannot even import entries from blogspot to wordpress for back-up purposes. Hang and stagnant in a particular percentage in progress. God dammit!
Who else had the same problem? What do you think if we share cost and put up our own domain with individual private sub-domains?

The 10GB space is a whole lot of space if you do these simple things:
- Upload photos through blogger or other free photo hosting. How?When you upload a photo in blogger, save the document as draft and the photo URL is already a valid link to your photo. Simple, right? Then copy and paste the URL to your entries. There you go, a free way to host pictures.
- Do not upload audios or videos but link directly to the audio/ videoshare like youtube/ googlevideo. Ourmedia.org is also a good way to stream your personal audio/ video files like how I’ve done with this stupid audio recorded interview.
- Minimise e-mail attachments and restrict yourself with text and hyperlinks.
With the above being controlled and optimised correctly, you will only have to worry about bandwidth and having a shared bandwidth of 1.6 terabyte is like having 1600 gigabytes of shared bandwidth every month. Unless xiaxue wants to join in, I don’t think we have a problem IF we keep our web page designs to the minimum ie. no unnecessary, irritating add-ons like heavy javascripts and scripts alike, other than what is required.
I made a proposal of 6 pax at a reflected cost of US$79.80/per pax, one time payment for 24 months and if there are others more than 6 who are interested, I believe we can further discuss about it depending on individual usage and frequency of updating and of course based on your current traffic as well.
But if it is lesser than expected, there are always the alternative downgrade of plan as the plan I proposed above is based on an intermediate account.
I am getting sick of Blogger’s nonsense. Firstly, I can’t comment, then the problem for republishing after the failure in importing posts to wordpress, now word verification for posting after so long? Come on lah Blogger, Google, whoever who is in charge, your stuff is getting crappier by the day.
