Why We Masturbate

Well… at least, most of us masturbate.

Before you think I am a pervert on the loose with nothing better to write about, let me start off to why people do not talk about masturbation.

• It’s embarrassing.

True? You would rather boast about how good a lover you are and start rattling about the bits and pieces of your sexcapades than telling your friends you had a good time playing with yourself. But why the embarrassment when every single individual, usually adults in general, knows you masturbate? How embarrassing can masturbating be when it is just an act of stimulating oneself to a point of orgasm?

• Elders never did want to elaborate or even talk about it when we were young.

Being asian, I was brought up in a conversative family and being in the conservative family, a lot of things had to be experienced first hand and hands on. I am not clear of how the west actually educate their young but in my house, masturbation is like a taboo. It is even worse imagining about masturbation than watching a pair of tits on tv.

• Some partners restrict their other halves from doing it, let alone talk about it.

Why? Insecure with the other half’s pair of hands or afraid their fantasies are something you can’t live up to? Come on. Maybe the one who is setting this rule is the one who is doing it and having those wild fantasies, hence the fear the partner doing the same.

But with some of the reasons mentioned above as to why people do not talk about masturbation openly when most of us actually do, why can’t we just make masturbation a normal form of private activity without the feeling of guilt or disgust? I know it sounded ironic since it is private so people can choose not to talk about it but look on the other side and think why we rather talk about sex (yes, just sex and not your sex life) which, in my opinion, is something private as well.

Parents should start talking about masturbation to their kids along with other growing up subjects and the do’s and don’ts of life. I am not a parent yet. But I am saying this because I was a child before. Heck everybody was. As their young, we have the right to be educated and best when it starts from home. Schools are secondary and acts as a support to what have been discussed at home. The input that a child or student might receive from sex education might not be 100% due to the peer presence and different children have different rates of growing up and levels of maturity for teachers in schools to be monitoring them individually with focus. Now is the time for young parents to take this chance and be everything for your kids.

How a parent wishes to start or explaining the definition of the term masturbate is up to you but when questioned “why?”, here are some tips you might want to try to use on them.

1. Masturbation is a good form of safe sex.
Apart from being aware of the consequences of unprotected sex, one who is lonely can save a few bucks on condoms or a short time engagement with a sex provider (prostitutes/ gigolos) or a night’s hotel stay with a partner.

2. It is free.
As I have said in the above point, no money is involved.

3. Do it at your own time.
You don’t have to be aligned with ‘the mood’ of anyone. When you feel like it, you can just do it. For how long or how short your time of pleasure is going to be, is entirely up to your own discretion.

4. Noone will get pregnant.
Saves money on unwanted abortion, or in case the girl wants to keep the baby, it would be of a higher cost and what is worse, a forced marriage due to religious conflicts or society mindset that having pre-marital pregnancy is a shame. On religion, one can not be ashamed of having pre-marital sex but one is more ashamed of having an illegitimate child.

5. You don’t have to clean up your mess…
…if you are sleeping alone all by yourself. Next morning wake up, wash up. No big deal.

6. Anytime, anywhere, anything.
As long as you are not violating any law, you can practically do it any time of day, any place in any attire without pleasing anyone else. Afterall, you are just pleasing yourself, isnt it?

7. It won’t harm your health.
You don’t see newspaper ads saying: “Masturbation Kills” or “Masturbation gives you AIDS” do you?

8. You don’t break a sweat.
Make sure you are well ventilated or fanned to achieve this.

9. You can do it with practically anyone.
You are the director of your own fantasies and the movies in your head don’t even cost a single cent. Except for maybe some tools enhancing your experience.

10. You get a CLIMAX.
Who in the world does not appreciate an orgasm?
